Hitachi Software Interactive Communications Group Looks Ahead at InfoComm 2003: Debuts New StarTablet™ T-18SX for Forward-Looking Presentations

ORLANDO, FLORIDA, June 3, 2003 — Underscoring its commitment to provide customers in the corporate and education markets with the highest levels of quality and innovation at the most competitive price points, Hitachi's Interactive Communications Group today introduced the StarTabletTM T-18SX, a new member of the StarBoard® family of interactive communication systems. The new StarTablet is an interactive 18" TFT device with SXGA quality graphics and extends the presenter's flexibility in any communications situation.

The StarTablet and its associated software permit presenters to run and annotate computer applications from the StarTablet, while simultaneously displaying the annotated images on rear projection or plasma displays, or traditional screens using LCD projectors. The annotated data can be saved in several file formats including .html files for easy viewing with any web browser software. These panels are the latest technology for interactive presentations in conference rooms, classrooms, training facilities, lecture halls, trade shows and symposiums. They are also excellent tools for interactive data communications and presentations through Internet-based applications such as videoconferencing and remote training.

"We believe that by combining cutting-edge presentation technology with a great value proposition, we can help every conference room and training facility owner realize their dream of having communications resources that are both intuitive to use and striking in their quality," said Ralph Zak, Director, Hitachi Interactive Communications Group.

The StarTablet provides a very attractive user paradigm. Presenters may be located apart from the audience or classroom's display device and not blocking its view as they annotate images or run applications. Presenters do not need to stare into glaring LCD projectors or turn their backs to their audiences to mark up and bring color and life to their material. The 18" display with SXGA resolution offers a large image on which to work and provides pinpoint accuracy in running applications and adding comments and annotations to presentations.

The new systems are available in an attractive ergonomic display enclosure with a variable angle stand for flat to near vertical positioning. The systems incorporate an electrostatic coupling sensing technology, which complement Hitachi Software's current electromagnetic technology systems (EM Panels). Software support for the StarTablet T-18SX is provided with the new StarBoard Software, Release 5.1.
