Hitachi Software Unveils Interactive Remote Conference Solution Offerings

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, March 18, 2003 — Hitachi Software today unveiled the launch of its Interactive Remote Conference Solution offerings.

Interactive Remote Conference Solution integrates Hitachi Software's home-bred products: ShareWizard Software Suite for PC data sharing, StarBoard® line of interactive digital products for presentation, and Polycom's Video Conferencing Systems.

In contrast to traditional video conferencing solutions, Hitachi Software's Interactive Remote Conference Solution combines the functionality of video conferencing and Hitachi Software's Interactive Digital Presentation Products with additional, robust interactive elements. The resulting system allows users not only to share data from their PCs remotely, through direct, simultaneous, multi-point PC or TV screen annotation, but also to enter information directly into their computer applications by writing directly onto their screens. All PC data with annotations are automatically saved on each local PC.

Hitachi Software ensures the security of customers' data transmissions by bundling VPN technology with the IRCS offerings.

According to Mr. Ted Wakabayashi, President of Hitachi Software, “Our goal is to enhance our customers' business communication while helping them save on business travel costs, especially at a time when the nation is facing threats of terrorist attacks and war. Business travel is not only expensive, it is also a great inconvenience to business people.”

Mr. Andrew Kubota, General Manager of Hitachi Software, further describes the benefits of Interactive Remote Conference Solution: “Our solution uses IP based network technology for seamless data sharing within the network. Besides saving traveling costs, it also elimates hourly usage fees which normally occur when ISDN-based connectivity for traditional video conferencing is used.”

Hitachi Software tailors its offerings to fit various business communication needs. Personal Interactive Meeting Solution allows two sites to be connected from desktop PCs. Small Group Interactive Conference Solution is suitable for small-to-medium size group meetings in a conference room scenario. Multi-point Large Group Interactive Conference Solution is designed for video conference meetings involving more than three locations and from medium to large conference room environments.

At the time of the Interactive Remote Conference Solution launch, Hitachi Software has successfully implemented the solution at a San Francisco Bay Area university, for their pre-MBA courses between the US and Japan.
