Hitachi Software Selects Sony Videoconference Products for Its Interactive Videoconferencing Solution

ALAMEDA, CALIFORNIA, November 20, 2003 — Hitachi Software today announced that it has officially selected the videoconference products from Sony Electronics Inc. for its Interactive Videoconferencing Solution. The decision widens the videoconferencing product choices for Hitachi Software's customers and it is important component of Hitachi Software's marketing strategy to extend it Interactive Conference Solution to serve enterprises across the Pacific Ocean.

Sony Electronics Inc. offers a wide range of audio and video conferencing solutions to satisfy the needs of professionals in diverse industries with varying technical and budgetary requirements. The ultra compact plug and play design of its videoconferencing products are affordable for users of all types and sizes.

Leading the future of the collaboration, Hitachi Software's Interactive Videoconferencing Solution adds robust interactive elements and a powerful data-collaboration feature to conventional videoconferencing through the incorporation of Hitachi Software's own Interactive Presentation Products — Starboard® line of interactive digital presentation systems and data-sharing software, Starboard Software. The solution is offered over an IP-based network to improve videoconferencing performance by integrating Internap's intelligent routing technology and Packeteer's Application Traffic Management systems. Hitachi Software also deploys customized firewall and VPN modules based on the customer's specific network requirements to ensure data transmission security during videoconferencing.

Prior to this announcement, Hitachi Software has dedicated to offer the videoconferencing equipments from Polycom, who has No.1 market share in the global videoconferencing market. Hitachi Software's decision to add the videoconferencing equipments from Sony on its plate is driven by the needs of Hitachi Software customers, who either have offices in US and headquartered in Japan, or headquartered in US and have branches in Japan, who have witnessed an increased role of videoconference usage in their daily business operations, due the global competition, globalization of customers and suppliers, and the needs to cut the travel cost.

For this announcement, Hitachi Software has entered a reseller agreement with Sony Electronics Inc in September, will act as a Sony videoconferencing product reseller. For customers who select Sony videoconferencing equipments for their interactive videoconferencing needs, Hitachi Software would provide consultation, deployment, maintenance, hardware and multilingual technical support in English, Japanese and Chinese.

At the moment of the press release, with the support of Sony Electronics Inc, Hitachi Software is providing a specially discount program to promote Sony videoconference products.
