Hitachi Software in the News Hitachi Software Interactive Communications Group Releases New Version of StarBoard® Software StarBoard Software Release 5.1.2 Supports New 50'' StarBoard P-50X Interactive Plasma System and Integrates Controls for Polycom Video Conference Setup ALAMEDA, CALIFORNIA, October 1, 2003 — Underscoring its commitment to continually upgrade its product line and deliver more value to its customers, Hitachi Software's Interactive Communications Group today introduced StarBoard Software Release 5.1.2. The new release provides support for the new StarBoard P-50X interactive plasma communication systems, as well as current StarBoard StarTablet and EM Panel interactive LCDs, the StarBoard R-70X interactive rear-projection system and StarBoard F-Series interactive whiteboards. StarBoard Release 5.1.2 also provides a new optional module for integrated Polycom videoconferencing setup, simplifying the steps necessary to deliver interactive data and video in a remote conferencing environment. The StarBoard family of products and their associated software permit presenters to run and annotate computer applications or digital video right on the StarBoard display using a supplied pen. The annotated data can be saved in several file formats including .html files for easy viewing with any web browser software. These interactive plasma, whiteboard and LCD panels are the latest technology for interactive presentations in boardrooms, customer meeting rooms, training, distance learning and videoconference settings. They are also excellent tools for weather broadcasting providing an environment for annotating weather maps, and for annotating diagrams and maps in news broadcasting. Coaches of athletic teams can use the systems to review game and practice film and commentators in broadcasting can annotate on digital footage or chalktalk right on the sports field and court backgrounds supplied with the software. The new StarBoard Software release also augments StarBoard's current conferencing software by providing an optional module for integrating the controls necessary to initiate and control videoconferences using Polycom's videoconference equipment. A user can simply select, from a host StarBoard system phonebook, which Internet based StarBoard systems are to be connected, and their associated Polycom equipment will be started up and linked to the conference providing interactive data, video and voice communications. This environment is ideal for multi-site meetings, customer presentations, distance learning, and remote training. "By adding multi-site interactive data and presentations to videoconferencing, Hitachi Software is creating an environment that is like just being there," said Ralph Zak, Director, Hitachi Software Engineering¡¦s Interactive Communications Group. "We know that our customers are trying to find ways to minimize the cost of travel, and still maintain the effectiveness of face-to-face contact. We help them achieve that goal." The StarBoard Software provides a very attractive user paradigm. With the StarBoard Software's intuitive icon-driven user interface, learning to use the system is easy. The software provides the functionality to operate and annotate right over Windows applications or digital video. Five different electronic ink types provide a large palette of attractive and eye-catching colors to make annotations standout on the display and add life to the presentation.
