144 Hitachi Software StarBoard® StarTablet™ T-15XLs Supercharge Learning at State-of-the-Art U.S. Air Force Training Academy

“In addition to the value it provides clients, StarBoard™ technologies are backward and forward compatible and very easily integrated,” says Eddie Myers, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at I-Tech A/V. “Quite simply, Hitachi StarBoard makes us a more turnkey integrator!”

ORLANDO, FLORIDA, March 10, 2005 — Underscoring the performance functionality and intuitiveness of its StarBoard™ interactive presentation technology, Hitachi Software today announced the successful deployment of 144 StarBoard T-15XL StarTablets at Little Rock Air Force Base (LRAFB), Arkansas. The 15” StarTablet, just one product from the Hitachi StarBoard™ comprehensive line of interactive communication systems, is used as an interactive training tool for maintenance engineers in technical training rooms at the newly completed, state-of-the-art Maintenance Training Facility. The interoperable StarBoard T-15XL StarTablets were easily integrated with legacy systems including an overhead projection system and electronic whiteboard.

“The ability to interact with aircraft schematics is essential for precision-based training,” said Eddie Myers, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at I-Tech A/V integrators, who performed the installation. “Hitachi StarBoard software is hands-down the easiest software to navigate, and enables the instructors and trainees to operate several applications at once, recording as they go along. Also, the Maintenance Training Facility is a great example of how the Hitachi StarBoard™ platform can be integrated with legacy equipment, enabling the Air Force to capitalize on existing investments while getting the most out of modern Hitachi StarBoard technology and facilitating upgrades in the future.”

Each technical training room in the LRAFB Maintenance Facility is set up with six to ten interactive StarTablets. Students’ computers are linked to the instructor’s computer, and StarBoard software allows the instructor to call up the student’s work on the screen at the touch of a finger. The pinpoint accuracy and functionality of StarBoard software facilitates extensive comprehension of aircraft schematics, thoroughly preparing students to interact with actual aircraft and their systems.

In class, the instructor regularly displays high-resolution schematics of aircraft engine or fuselage equipment and uses the annotation capabilities of Hitachi StarBoard software to draw on top of the image. The class can easily collaborate on extensive projects using touch-screen technology. The StarBoard archival feature allows students to log in remotely as their needs dictate to retrieve annotated slides from previous training sessions.

Powered by the category-leading Hitachi StarBoard software, the StarTablet T-15XL enables presenters to run and annotate computer applications from the StarTablet while simultaneously displaying the annotated images on rear projection or plasma displays, or traditional screens using LCD projectors. The annotated data can be saved in several file formats including .html files for easy viewing with any web browser software. These panels are the latest technology for interactive presentations in conference rooms, classrooms, training facilities, lecture halls, trade shows and symposiums. The T-15XL are also excellent tools for interactive data communications and presentations through Internet-based applications such as videoconferencing and remote training and distance learning.

“Arguably the most technologically advanced training facility in the U.S. Airforce, Little Rock Air Force Base requires a high-tech, easy-to-use presentation technology,” commented Ralph Zak, Director, Hitachi Interactive Communications Group. “Our StarBoard panels provide cutting-edge tools for technical training room instruction, curriculum management and web-based archival capabilities.”
