Hitachi Software in the News Contacts: Gerard F. Corbett Tamara Deschryver Daniel O’Connell INFOCOMM BOOTH #4046 Casa Grande Elementary School District Embraces Learning with Hitachi Software StarBoard® T-17SXL Interactive Displays and BT-1 Freedom Tablets The StarBoard technology is utilized in classrooms from grades one through eight. ORLANDO, FLORIDA, www.hitachi.us, June 7, 2006 — Demonstrating Hitachi Software’s commitment to providing educators with reliable, advanced interactive presentation technologies that are easy to use, Casa Grande Elementary School District in Casa Grande, AZ recently installed 20 Hitachi Software StarBoard® T-17SXL Interactive Display panels and 20 BT-1 Freedom Tablets. The units were sold through Troxell Communications and represent a significant step toward the school board’s goal of increasing academic achievement for all students. “All students and teachers should have ready, immediate access to technologies that both reflect and impact the superior quality of learning provided by the school district,” said Lynette Eshom of Casa Grande Elementary School District. “We wanted to infuse classroom lessons with a higher level of versatility and interaction in the type of content shared with students, and we view technology as a conduit for a new learning paradigm. We selected the StarBoard T-17SXL for its flexibility, broad feature set and ease of use. Furthermore, the unit is future-proof, offering seamless integration both with existing equipment and the technologies that the future will produce.” The Hitachi StarBoard T-17SXL is the main instructional tool in the classrooms, and is easily connected to other technology tools including computers and LCD projectors. The T-17SXL screen image can be projected to any size on projection screens. Teachers face the students and control Windows-based presentations and computer applications directly on the T-17SXL using the wireless 2-button stylus, avoiding projector glare and providing students with an unobstructed view of the presentation. The BT-1 Freedom Tablet is a handheld, pen-driven Bluetooth tablet that enables teachers to interact wirelessly with the StarBoard system from any point in the classroom. The pen and tablet can also be passed around the classroom to students, enabling them to interact with the presentation from their seats. Teachers in Casa Grande Elementary School District use the StarBoard T-17SXL and BT-1 Tablets in a variety of lessons across the curriculum for grades one through eight. The new technology has enabled classes to become significantly more interactive. For example, during vocabulary lessons where legibility and correct spelling are essential, teachers and students utilize the EverNote™ ritePen® handwriting recognition feature within StarBoard Software to write on the T-17SXL screen or BT-1 tablet using the pen device, and the handwriting automatically converts into easy-to-read text. “Our StarBoard T-17SXL and BT-1 systems have already been an overwhelming success, and the feedback has been excellent,” Ms. Eshom enthused. “Our teachers have embraced this technology to supplement their teaching with visual instruction to really show the students about what they are talking. Best of all, the StarBoard systems have inspired a level of interactivity that has dramatically increased student motivation.” For more information on Troxell Communications, please visit www.trox.com.
